The Austin Independent School District, which was established in 1881, is an urban school district with a rich and diverse student community of over 82,000 students coming from all economic levels and racial backgrounds. The Austin ISD has 110 campuses and employs over 11,500 professional and support personnel. Most of their students come from low income families and homes in which 57 different native languages are used. The Austin ISD enjoys a favorable community support that helped the Austin ISD approve a $500 million bond package that will be useful for the expansion and development of the district by building new schools and a performing arts center, adding classrooms, renovating facilities and upgrading campus security.
In terms of academic performance, the Austin ISD is continuing to see academic progress and development. During the past year, five of Austin ISD schools were able to make it to Newsweek’s “Top 600 High Schools” in the United States.
Last 2002, the Austin ISD premeditated a comprehensive and aggressive intervention plan to improve student achievement by focusing on their chronic low performing schools – The Austin Blueprint Schools Initiative: To Leave No Child Behind. This initiative have places Austin ISD in a better advantage in terms of educational achievement and progress. |
